As individuals, we are all unique. We have our own likes, dislikes, wants and desires and this often spills over from our daily lives into major life decisions, such as buying a home. And, no matter what shape or size your living space is, the concept and feeling of home means different things to different people.

For some, it’s more tangible, like the layout or number of bedrooms in a home, while, for others, it’s more emotional, like the feeling a home provides when they walk in the door after a long day.

Either way, these thoughts, feelings and ideals are powerful and compelling, and they typically guide buyers throughout their home buying process.

Here are five common motivating factors of home ownership:

1. A place to raise children
From the best neighbourhoods to the best school districts, even those without children often look for neighbourhoods that offer great schools and a sense of community.

2. A place to feel safe
One of our basic needs as human beings is safety, which is why it’s no surprise that many home buyers look towards homeownership as a safe and comfortable place to call their own.

3. A place to grow
Whether you are a first-time buyer just starting out in life or a retired couple looking to downsize, we all need a place that suits our need for space and fits our unique lifestyles.

4. A place to customize a living environment
One of the main motivating factors for first-time buyers is to have a space free from landlords, where they can customize their living environments as they please. From paint colours to renovations, the world is your oyster as a homeowner.

5. A place to build wealth
Owning a home is one of life’s biggest investments. That’s why many home buyers choose to partner with a real estate sales professional to help them find a home with great investment potential and resale value down the road.

But, how about you? What does home ownership mean to you? What are your motivating factors to find a place to call your own?
