Whether you are searching for a retirement residence for yourself or a loved one, it’s important to ensure that you choose a community that is licensed and regulated. Each province in Canada has their own retirement community association, but for residences in Mississauga and throughout Ontario, all are licensed and regulated by the Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority (RHRA).

The RHRA maintains standards in Ontario’s retirement community industry by:
•    Inspecting retirement homes and enforcing the Retirement Homes Act
•    Ensuring all Ontario retirement homes have a license
•    Ensuring the rights of residents are upheld
•    Protecting residents against abuse and neglect

Many retirement homes in Mississauga are also members of:
•    The Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA)
•    The Older Adult Centres' Association of Ontario (OACAO)
•    The Canadian Association of Retired People (CARP)
•    The Ontario Community Support Association
•    Community Care Access Centre (CACC)
•    The Ontario Home Care Association (OHCA)
•    The Ontario Long-term Care Association (OLTCA)
•    The Ontario Association of Non-Profit Housing Services for Seniors (OANHSS)
•    The Canadian Home Care Association
•    Accreditation Canada

When researching various retirement communities, be sure to inquire whether a residence is licensed and regulated, and what associations it belongs to. Most importantly, seek the help of a trusted and experienced professional, like an Accredited Senior Agent (ASA), who can help guide you through this next stage of life.
