If you look around your home, you’ll likely notice family photographs adorning your walls, children’s artwork on the fridge, knick-knacks from past travels and other sentimental items you’ve hung onto for years. And while these belongings are what make your house a home, they can pose a problem for potential buyers when selling your house.

You see, buyers want to be able to envision themselves living in your home. However, if your rooms are filled with personal belongings and mementos, getting into the right mindset can be challenging.

That’s where staging comes in. By stripping away the excess, you’ll reveal a beautiful, clean space that showcases your home’s full potential and connects with buyers.

If you are considering selling your Mississauga home, here are five staging tips to get you started:

Declutter
Decluttering is an integral part of staging because it draws the eye away from “stuff” and focuses buyers’ attention on the features found in your home. When preparing your house to sell, box up any collections, knick-knacks or other belongings that make a room feel cluttered, chaotic or messy.

Arrange Furniture
Improper furniture placement can make a room feel cramped and difficult to move around. Before welcoming buyers into your home, edit your furnishings and remove pieces that are too large or impede flow. If you are missing a key element, like a nightstand or side table, use a stool or a small end table to fill the space and make the room feel finished.

Repaint
When it comes to staging, paint is powerful! Not only will a fresh coat make your home feel clean and new, but light colours and soft hues will brighten and enlarge rooms. When repainting, consider choosing neutral colours that appeal to the most buyers.

Upgrade Bedding
A properly staged bed with crisp white linens, a fluffy duvet and accent pillows is a great way to create a restful and peaceful bedroom that buyers will love.

Furnish Empty Spaces
If you are selling a vacant property or have empty rooms without furniture, hire a stager to furnish the principal rooms of your home. Large, open spaces are difficult for buyers to visualize, but with the right furniture pieces and placement, a room’s full potential truly shines.
