Retirement communities in Mississauga offer graded levels of care to meet the varying health needs and lifestyles of seniors.
They range from hands-off care to very hands-on care, usually in this order:
- Active adult living or "55-plus living"
- Independent living
- Assisted living
- Long-term care
Some seniors’ residences will only specialize in one level of care, like in a community that caters to active adults or independent living. Many seniors prefer this option because they benefit from having 100% of the staff dedicated to their level of care, while being able to engage with fellow residents who are similarly active and able or share similar interests.
Other communities offer a continuum of care, meaning that the same residence caters to seniors of various needs. This allows healthy, independent seniors to live in an independent suite, then transition to an assisted living suite as their health or circumstances changes, while remaining in the same familiar community that they know and love.
