As the name implies, single-family detached homes are their own entity and have their own lot. Styles range from house-to-house, but single-storey bungalows, side- or back-splits or two-storey homes are the most common.
Semi-Detached or Linked
These types of homes often feature two houses that share or are linked by a common wall.
A duplex is a building zoned for two families.
Also known as a terrace or row house, townhomes typically feature a common style and are joined together in a row. Many units share walls with neighbours on both sides, unless located on an end unit.
With a condo, you’ll own 100% of your unit, but will share common areas, including the building’s plumbing, electrical systems, hallways, elevators and amenities. On top of mortgage and property taxes, condo owners also pay a monthly fee to operate and maintain these common areas.
